Finalists for 2014 Bachelor and Bachelorette announced
Local among the 10 to battle it out for the coveted title in November.
The 10 finalists for the 2014 Bachelor and Bachelorette competition were announced officially during a glittering evening held at Kloofzicht Lodge and Spa in Muldersdrift.
This year’s finalists who will battle it out for the coveted title, including a local from Randfontein, are Rodney Prins, Bertus van der Merwe, Sonél Luyt, Nirelda Andeka, Rozanne Meyer, Lucy Greyvenstein, Johan Anker, Guy Saben, Gerda-Marie Conradie and Jaco Venter.
Various members of the printed media, sponsors, mentors as well as judges of the Bachelor and Bachelorette competition attended the dinner. Rozanne MacKenzie, well-known presenter of kykNET’s Dagbreek and announcer at jacaranda.fm was the master of ceremonies.
Well-known and popular artists including Granville Michaels, George Meiring (who is also a judge), Willem Botha and Christiaan Kritzinger entertained the attendees at the beautiful Kloofzicht Lodge, which is situated in a breathtaking and unspoiled reserve. The guests also were treated to a tasty three-course buffet dinner.
Ronel Vermaak and Olivia Curlewis of Cansa talked about cancer and the important role the Bachelor and Bachelorette initiative plays to raise funds for this worthy cause. The 10 finalists participated in the auction that raised funds for Cansa and singer George Meiring acted as an auctioneer.
The 10 candidates were chosen in July by a panel of judges after intensive judging in Krugersdorp, Cape Town, KZN Midlands and Johannesburg. A training seminar also was held at Glenburn Lodge which will equip the finalists for upcoming duties and their roles as potential ambassadors of Cansa.
During the next few months the 10 finalists will have to organise their own fundraisers and media drives. The winners will be announced at a glamorous red-carpet event on 8 November at Silverstar Casino.
The Bachelor and Bachelorette’s chosen charity for the past three years has been Cansa. This is a charity that has been around for more than 80 years and not only does active research about cancer, but also informs and educates. The finalists will be raising funds and awareness for childhood cancer, and Cansa’s TLC house, which looks after children and their families fighting the disease. More than R500 000 has been raised during this year’s competition.
