Randfontein Local Municipality website so out dated it’s dead

Randfontein Local Municipality website resurrects deceased councillors.

It has been brought to the attention of the herald that some of the information on the Randfontein Local Municipality website is outdated.

Our sources noted that two people on the list of councillors on the Randfontein Local Municipality Councillors page in fact are deceased.

The herald investigated and the passing away of Shannon Steenkamp, a former DA PR councillor was confirmed. This was done by contacting the number of the Client Care Centre given on the website. There is reason to believe that Joseph Williams, a former DA ward councillor, also had passed away.

One of our sources brought it to our attention that this very issue was raised with the municipality two to three months back. The response by the municipality was that it was noted; however, without anything being done to update the information – much to the irritation of community members.

Lucky Chiya, spokesperson for the Randfontein Executive Mayor, was contacted but was not available. The herald awaits his comment.

For a website of this stature one would expect up-to-date and relevant information to keep the community informed. Besides its status as a .gov.za domain, the fact that it is a municipality website to which the community turns for essential information makes updating it a pressing issue.
