Women’s Month: Author’s dream is to see her books in schools

With several isiZulu books already published, she is now working towards her first English title.

As Women’s Month celebrates inspiring women in communities, Elandsvlei resident Nomathemba Mncube is pursuing her dream of becoming a published English author.

Nomathemba writes novels and short stories and has already published several books in isiZulu. She now hopes to publish her first English book and eventually have her stories available to learners in schools.

Her journey has been challenging. She only received an education up to primary school and spent several years living on the streets before receiving support from a local church, which helped her rebuild her life and pursue writing. She now hopes to use her experiences to inspire others and encourage young people to read.

But unfortunately, Nomathemba is facing a challenge.

Her laptop recently broke, making it difficult to continue writing. She is appealing to residents, businesses and organisations that may be able to assist with a working laptop, publishing costs or other resources.

Anyone who can assist can contact Nomathemba on 069 275 5485.
