State funeral marks final farewell to Mzi Khumalo

Political leaders and mourners gathered in Ruimsig to say their final goodbye to former Rand West City mayor, Mzi Khumalo.

A state funeral was held at Ruimsig Stadium on August 15, as family, friends, community members and political leaders gathered to bid farewell to former Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) Executive Mayor Mzikayifane Elias ‘Mzi’ Khumalo.

The funeral service brought together mourners from across the province to honour Khumalo, who was remembered for his dedication to public service and his contribution to the people of Gauteng.

Khumalo’s political career spanned local and provincial government, where he served in various leadership positions and remained actively involved in the ANC.

On behalf of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, Speaker Morakane Mosupyoe paid tribute to Khumalo, reflecting on his contribution to the legislature, the ANC and the people of Gauteng.•

ANC National Executive Committee member Khumbudzo Ntshavheni delivered the party’s message, paying tribute to Khumalo’s contribution to the movement and the role he played throughout his political journey.

The funeral also highlighted the importance of unity within the West Rand region. Lesego Makhubele of ANC Gauteng, who also serves as a chief whip, delivered a message centred on unity in the region.
