‘Criminal’ beaten to death by residents
'Man was allegedly found in possession of stolen pipes' - police.
Residents of Mohlakeng took the law into their own hands having attacked a man – believed to be a criminal – to death on Thursday.
According to Randfontein police spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst “An unknown male was killed early on Thursday morning around 5.55am during an incident of mob justice in the area.
“It is alleged that the victim, approximately 45 years of age was found in possession of stolen pipes near Lebusa Street, Mohlakeng.
“The community in the area took the man to task and allegedly assaulted him with numerous objects. He sustained injuries all over his head and body.
“The victim was critically injured due to the attack and he died due to his injuries shortly after the attack.
“It is alleged that residents in the area are frequently forced to forgo running water due to taps and water pipes being stolen.
“The victim was not identified.”
Randfontein police urgently requires information that might lead to the identifying of the victim. No arrests have been made.
