Wrongfully sent SMS upsets resident

It is not the first time this has happened.

A resident of Greenhills Extension 5 is upset after he received an sms from the municipality telling him to pay his bill after he had paid more than the outstanding amount almost a month ago.

Dave Kock has been living in Randfontein for 15 years.

“This is not the first time this has happened and I am not the only one in my neighbourhood experiencing this problem,” says Kock.

Kock went to the municipal offices in October and asked for a printout of his statement. A few days later he paid more than the amount outstanding for which he received a date-stamped slip.

“At the end of October a statement was hand-delivered to my house. Knowing that I have paid, I ignored it and just filed it with the rest of my bills,” says Kock.

On 10 November Kock received another notice from the municipality via sms, stating that he had to settle his account by 7 November.

“I want to know what the municipality is doing, because they clearly are not doing their job,” says an annoyed Kock.

The herald contacted the manager for the debtors and creditors of the municipality, Lesiba Thupudi who confirmed that they are aware that account holders not owing any money were smsed wrongfully on 10 November.

“We have sent out another sms apologising for the error. We recently started using a new service provider to try and make up for the post office’s delays in sending statements to the people. We are working closely with them to iron out all the issues and promise to get this service working correctly as soon as possible.”

Thupudi adds that he does not want to break the community’s faith in the municipality and all the hard-working employees who do their jobs well.

The slip Kock recieved on 20 October, after he paid his bill.
