Municipality revises Eskom budget
'R244 million outstanding from households; R40 million outstanding from businesses' – municipality
The Randfontein Local Municipality speaks out about the Eskom account and the process of servicing the arrears.
According to Tshidiso Tlharipe, spokesperson for the Randfontein Executive Mayor, “On 10 April the Executive Mayor in his State of the Town Address highlighted the need to review the initial R3 million monthly repayment plan towards Eskom arrears as the amount was to steep for the municipality to afford.”
As a result of this, he says, the Randfontein Local Municipality held a special council meeting on 23 April at 12 noon to present a new repayment plan.
The amended payment plan on arrears:

• July 2015 — R6 Million
• August 2015 — R2 Million
• September 2015 — R2 Million
• October 2015 — R2 Million
• November 2015 — R2 Million
• December 2015 —R6 Million
• January 2016 — R2 Million
• February 2016 — R2 Million
• March 2016 — R2 Million
• April 2016 — R6 Million
• May 2016 — R2 Million
• June 2016 — R2 Million
• July 2016 — R6 Million
• August 2016 – R2 Million
• September 2016 — R2 Million
• October 2016 — R2 Million
• November 2016 — R2 Million

The revised payment plan has been spread over 29 months in order to service other debts like Rand Water. The Randfontein Local Municipality has already sent this new payment plan to Eskom of which they have approved.
The municipality is appealing to those who have outstanding debts on assessment rates and services to honour their dues to the council.
“We appeal to the National and Provincial Departments which operates within out jurisdiction to honour the R5 million on assessment rates and services,” Tlharipe said.
He also highlights that there is R244 million outstanding from households and R40 million outstanding from businesses in Randfontein.
Tlharipe added “The Municipality will honour it’s debt to Eskom, we appeal that you honour your debt to the municipality. Let us work together and honour services which are offered, we can do more if those who owe the municipality honours their debts.”
