Take Charge Campaign launched
Campaign aimed at reducing crime launched by the West Rand District Municipality.
The West Rand District Municipality launched the regional Take Charge Campaign in Khutsong at the end of last month.
The regional launch led by the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) Public Safety Councillor Loyiso Nkosiyane comes after the provincial launch in Sebokeng on 30 July 2015.
Earlier this year, the Gauteng City Region adopted the Gauteng Safety which is aimed at promoting safety in the province. The strategy is part of the City Region’s vision of transformation, modernization and re-industrialization.
Subsequent to the adoption of the strategy, the Take Charge Campaign, a social movement against crime, was developed to revitalize and strengthen Community Policing Forum, mobilise civil society and stakeholders to act in partnership with law enforcement agencies and government to fight crime and promote road safety.
This strategy is aimed more at providing a coherent framework that would guide public, private and civil-society organisations throughout the province towards activities and interventions that would sustainably reduce crime.
The strategy focused on four pillars whose ultimate aim is to improve the quality of policing in the province, promote social crime prevention, provide for institutional arrangements to support social crime prevention and encourage community participation.
