Randfontein Rugby Club secured a place in the second round of the Gold Cup after a dramatic 26–25 victory over Sibanye Stillwater Warriors on Saturday, September 26, at Greenhills Stadium.

Late penalty try snatches victory

The match went down to the wire, with Teine securing the win through a penalty try in the dying moments. The result capped a closely contested encounter in which Sibanye Warriors produced a determined performance and could easily have walked away with the victory.

Smit leads the charge

Teine’s Man of the Match, Louis Smit, was instrumental in the win. Playing at eighth man, Smit delivered a remarkable performance, scoring two tries to keep his side in contention.

Dylan Viviers also crossed the line for Teine following an excellent passage of teamwork, while captain Keagan Fortune added two successful conversions.

Despite the narrow defeat, Sibanye Warriors showed plenty of character throughout the match and pushed Teine all the way before the late penalty try decided the contest.

With their Gold Cup campaign continuing, Teine will now turn their attention to their second-round fixture against Vereeniging Rugby Club, away from home, on Saturday, October 3.
