Woman demands justice after car torched in early hours
A Toekomsrus resident is left without answers and frustrated by police inaction after discovering her vehicle engulfed in flames down a quiet street.
Caymon de Koker is seeking answers after her car was allegedly set alight while parked outside a friend’s home.
De Koker said she had been out with friends before deciding to stay over at a friend’s home.
At about 04:00 on September 14, she heard a loud bang and went outside with her friend to investigate.
“To our shock and horror, we found my car down the street about 100m from the house burning,” she said.
She said neighbours claimed they had not seen anything, and she remains unsure whether the incident was an attempted theft or a possible personal attack.

Frustrations with police response
De Koker reported the matter to Randfontein police and was referred to Mohlakeng Police Station.
She said she was told she would receive her case number after four days, but after receiving no communication, she returned to the station and was given the number on a handwritten note.
She said she has not heard from police since.
The Randfontein Herald approached Gauteng spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko for comment on the incident. While she did not provide an immediate comment on the specific case, she provided information on the steps residents can take if they are dissatisfied with the service they receive from the police.
“Members of the public who are not satisfied with the service rendered by the police are urged and advised to lodge a formal complaint with the relevant Station Commander or District Commissioner,” Sibeko said.
The Herald also approached Mohlakeng Police Station’s acting station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Mukosi Rambuda, who said the process for residents who open cases is that they receive their case numbers electronically, and he couldn’t determine why this wasn’t the case in this matter. Rambuda confirmed that the case is being investigated by one of the sergeants at the station and promised to forward the Herald’s enquiries to the investigating sergeant.
Sibeko added that members of the public could also register a formal complaint with SAPS through the following channels:
• SAPS Head Office Toll-Free: 0800 333 177
• Gauteng Standby: 082 442 2000
• WhatsApp: 082 759 2590
