Suspected burglar found hiding in tree

Suspect found in possession of a side cutter, screwdrivers as well as poison.

Two vigilant police officers patrolling in Greenhills were likely to have prevented a possible housebreaking and poisoning.

This crime prevention success occurred at around 3 o’clock one Tuesday morning in December.

It is alleged the members were conducting patrols when they spotted a suspicious looking man carrying a bag.

“When they approached the man, he started running away and the officers gave chase,” said Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the Randfontein Police.

The officers then saw the man jumping into a property’s premises in Wildebees Road and followed closely behind him.

The suspect hid in a tree in a bid to give police the slip when they ordered him to climb down.

Once he was out of the tree, he was searched and was found in possession of housebreaking instruments such as a side cutter and screwdrivers as well as poison.

Ernst added, “The suspect was arrested by Warrant Officer Botha and was detained at the Randfontein Police Station.

“The Randfontein Police management are proud of members who are vigilant and proactive in the fight against crime.
