Malerato pupils win readathon contest

They competed against ten other primary schools.

Malerato Primary School in Mohlakeng recently took home the Readathon trophy for Randfontein Libraries after competing against ten other schools.

The competition was held at Avante Primary School in Finsbury.

The team from Malerato consisted of five grade 5 pupils who had to read five books in two weeks. They also had to answer questions on the books they read.

Some of the schools that participated were Westcol and Avante. In order to compete in the competition, Malerato’s five pupils were selected out of a group of pupils according to their reading and comprehension abilities by the school.

The pupils are Jabulile Mani, Nombulelo Mokgwetsi, Dimpho Sithole, Onthile Mlchabela and Tshegofatso Maphiri. These lucky pupils all received tablets, medals, certificates, dictionaries and mathematical instruments.

Lydia Thipe and Macduff Machabaphala, their teachers, are extremely proud of their achievement.
