New Boeremark has everyone talking

Tuinhekkie Boeremark/Flea Market came out of nowhere, but its name is already on every Randfonteiner's lips

Randfontein has seen many flea markets come and go but there’s one that’s here to stay, and some say it might even rival the Randfontein Show in future.

Tuinhekkie Boeremark/Flea Market came out of nowhere, and now its name is on every Randfonteiner’s lips. The market takes place every Saturday between 8am and 12pm in Wheatlands.

Leon Hefer, who is the mastermind behind Tuinhekkie, has big plans for the future. The market only opened on 7 May and it’s already a great success.

Leon bought the property on which the flea market operates just a few months ago, but he’s managed to get the place looking spick-and-span. He explained that when he bought the plot, the building was a shell that needed painting and repairing. He has completely renovated it, breaking out walls and building restrooms, and has landscaped the gardens.

The name ‘Tuinhekkie’ comes from the aesthetic of the plot its located on; everywhere one looks there are gates – typical garden and farm gates.

Tuinhekkie already boasts stalls, live entertainment, a beer garden and a stunning atmosphere, but Leon has even bigger plans for Tuinhekkie – he plans to open a restaurant, which is already under construction, in the main building next to his floristry business.

The progress made on the property is astounding for such a new venture, and plans for the future promise to result in something Randfonteiners have not seen previously.
