Future Miss SA in the making

Recently, a local 15-year-old model was chosen as one of the finalists in the Mr and Miss Junior South Africa Teen 2017 competition.
On Saturday, 19 November, Anthea Beukes got one step closer to her goal of becoming the next Miss Junior South Africa Teen, when she chosen as one of the finalists from Gauteng.
“I was so surprised with the results. I can’t wait to give it everything I’ve got,” she said.
The stage is no stranger to Anthea as she has been competing in pageants since the age of seven. In 2008 and 2009 she competed in her primary school’s Miss and Mr Jongies and was crowned as First and Second Princess in these competitions.
In 2009 and 2011 she competed in two pageants hosted by her modelling school at the time. After her last pageant in 2011, she stopped entering pageants after sustaining a wrist injury, but in May this year, she returned to modelling.
“It’s kind of funny how I got back into modelling again. My school was hosting a pageant that I actually knew nothing about. My friend told me about it and asked me to join her, so I agreed and did it with her,” Anthea said.
Thereafter she joined the Toekomsrus Philantropic Foundation (TPF) Arts Academy where she competed in various other pageants, including Mr and Miss Junior South Africa.
“I’ve always had a passion for modelling, which goes well with wanting to give back to the community,” she said.
“I am currently busy with quite a few projects. One includes the distribution of sanitary pads to less fortunate girls, and as part of the 16 Days of Activism, I will be hosting a mother-daughter brunch in an effort to raising awareness of women and child abuse.”
The brunch will take place at Grootjie’s Kombuis on Saturday, 3 December at 10 am. All members of the public are welcome to join in this awareness event at a cost of R250 per mother and daughter couple. Tickets will be available at the door.
