Man jailed for girlfriend’s murder
Man, 35, sentenced to eight years for girlfriend's murder in Wheatlands.
Abram Tau, 35, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for his girlfriend’s murder two years ago.
At the conclusion of the 16 days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children, the sentence was handed down in the Randfontein Regional Court on Friday, 9 December 2016.
According to Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, an alleged domestic issue at a plot in Wheatlands led to the death of Nora Mothladile on 20 April 2015. Her boyfriend, Abram Tau, allegedly beat her throughout the night, which caused her death.
“Tau then fled to Ventersdorp with the couple’s baby. Tau was eventually arrested on 26 April in Elandsvlei after information was received from local residents,” Ernst said.
On Thursday, 1 December 2016, Tau was found guilty of murder.
Randfontein Police management congratulates Warrant Officer Bongani Mpete on securing this sentence. Presiding Magistrate Kau and the Prosecutor, Adele Britz from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) are also applauded for their contribution.
“This sentence is a fitting closure for the 16 days of Activism campaign. We hope that this sentence serves as a deterrent to other like-minded offenders. Women should be protected, not murdered,” said the Randfontein Police station commander, Brigadier Manamela.
