35 ways to die in Greenhills and Homelake

Find out which deadly areas to avoid here.

Randfontein is a town with few traffic lights, and one would think that in lieu of traffic lights there would be stop signs.

However, Randfontein, especially in Ward 6 under which Homelake and Greenhills fall, has many dangerous stop sign intersections.

Ellik de Lange, DA Ward 6 councillor, has made a point of making a list of all the stop signs and road markings that go with the signs – or rather the lack thereof – and came up with 35 of them.

His list included the actual stop signs and road markings, as well as yield signs and their respective road markings.

De Lange explained that 24 of these intersections are located in Greenhills, with another 11 in Homelake.

In his report, he noted two dangerous intersections, namely Nartjie and Palm Avenues, and Greenhills and Mimosa Avenues.

In addition to stop and yield signs, he noted two roads which have speed humps but no warning signs. These are Ewart Road and Frederick Street, which run along two sides of the Laerskool Randfontein grounds in Homelake.

De Lange said he will be bringing the matter before council to ensure safer roads in his ward as he has also noted the number of collisions – both serious and minor – as a result of unmarked intersections.
