West Rand gets bright red fire engines for Valentine’s

Boyce Maneli, Executive Mayor of the West Rand District Municipality (WRDM) has kept his word and delivered five more fire engines to his district.
Whether or not it was planned as such, the bright red fire engines were handed over just in time for Valentine’s Day.
Last year, Maneli put five brand new fire and rescue trucks into service on the West Rand as part of his 100-day plan and on that day he vowed to deliver more in early 2017.
“You were here last time and I told you there will be more engines to come. I kept my promise,” Maneli told the Herald during the handover.
This time around, the fire engines are more than rescue vehicles — they are fully equipped large engines which come with the state of the art technology.
One of the features on the engines are fully automated floodlights on top of the engines which can move through 360 degrees. In addition, a heavy ladder on the engines is also fully automated.
Maneli has provided a direct response to the current situation in Mogale City, and said all will benefit from the new engines.
“These engines will be sent out to the various municipalities. They will not be standing here at district on display,” he said.
Maneli said the new engines also give municipalities time to service and repair current engines while using the latest technology to still carry out services for to the public.
