Ramosa Hall invaded by fitness fanatics

Fitness fanatics from as far away as Durban and Lesotho arrived in large numbers to attend the 8th BIM Aerobics Marathon held in Randfontein.

Fitness fanatics in all shapes and sizes packed the Mohlakeng Ramosa Hall for the 8th Annual Bodies in Motion (BIM) Aerobics Marathon held recently.

Tlhogi Links and Lebo Ndlovu, the event organisers and fitness instructors, said they had over 108 individual participants and eight teams taking part in the event. The categories were step, box and hi-lo.

“We had participants from as far afield as Kimberley, Bloemfontein, Durban, Pretoria, Soweto and even Lesotho,” said Lebo.

Aline Vogel and Rene Lomanga from Bokwa Fitness, with Lerato Kae from Bodies in Motion.

“There is an element of growth in the number of participants in comparison with previous years. We even had visitors all the way from Germany and the USA, in the shape of a couple named Aline Vogel and Rene Lomanga, and Paul Mavi. Aline and Rene came up with a new innovation called ‘Bokwa’ which consists of Kwaito music, dance and boxercise,” added Tlhogi.

The enthusiasm displayed at the BIM Aerobics Marathon is an indication that aerobics and fitness have taken townships and former disadvantaged areas by storm.

“Most of the participants are from church, school and community halls where there is no state-of-the-art equipment, unlike what is found in big name fitness studios.”

Thlogi went on to thank Andrew Kroet from Body Tech Fitness Centre in the Randfontein CBD for being involved in this event.

“All it takes to become fit is music and the love of it,” said Paul, formerly from Soweto, with relatives in Mohlakeng, and now based in the USA.

Team winners included SAL, who won the step category, The Stomaz, who took the hi-lo category, and Team Siyavuthela from Emalahleni in Mpumalanga, who aced the box category.
