Tiny petrol price decrease for March

It may not be much but it's something – Department of Energy announces small decrease in fuel price.

Finally – the petrol price goes down – if only by a few cents a litre.

The Department of Energy recently announced that the current petrol price will see a decrease of 8 cents while the price of diesel will go down by 2 cents per litre.

Illuminating paraffin will decrease by 8 cents/l (wholesale) and 10 cents/l (single maximum national retail price).

These changes will take effect on Wednesday, 1 March.

One of the main reasons for the small drop in price is the increased strength of the rand against the US Dollar.

While the increase is welcomed by motorists, their joy may be short-lived. In April, a number of fuel levies are due to hit. As from 1 April, the fuel levy is expected to increase by 39 cents per litre and the Road Accident Fund (RAF) levy will increase by 9 cents.
