R60k up for grabs at Easter Soccer tourney
It’s Easter soccer time again! This tournament is bigger and better with much more to play for.
Mohlakeng Stadium will once again be the battlefield for the annual Greater Randfontein Easter Soccer Tournament (Grest) from Good Friday till Easter Monday.
Abe Montoedi, event organiser and Grest founder said 20 teams instead of the usual 16 will take part and with R60 000 at stake, the tournament is set for a humdinger.
Team Four Stars, the defending champs from Mohlakeng are again expected to be contenders. Other Mohlakeng-based teams to feature are Killers FC, Napoli, Black Stars, which is coached by former Banyana Banyana captain Portia Modise, and House Party.
There is also a number of visiting teams from Roodepoort and from as far as Taung in the North West.
“We would like to thank the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation for their involvement as well as Mzi Khumalo, Rand West City Local Municipality Executive Mayor who will be handing over the trophy to the winning team,” Abe said.
