It all started with a little girl …
A Toekomsrus couple started an NGO to help children after taking in a girl with addict parents.
In a community overrun with substance abuse problems and troubled youth, Randy Christian is doing his part to rid Toekomsrus of drugs and uplift its youth.
Randy is the founder of the Myburgh Foundation which seeks to make a difference in the Toekomsrus community.
He said he decided to start the foundation after they had taken in a two-month-old baby girl whose parents are both addicts. Her mother is currently in a programme while her father is in jail.

Randy and his wife Cindy have been looking after the girl for five-and-a-half months.
The foundation was registered last year in July and seeks to provide a place of safety for women and children who have been affected by substance abuse.
In addition to creating a place of safety, the foundation has hopes of assisting the elderly as well as disabled children with wheelchairs. They also supply schools in Toekomsrus with sanitary towels.
“This is another initiative we’re busy with. You see children with disabilities who already have a hard time and now they don’t have wheelchairs or they do but not have ones that are the right size or work properly,” Randy said.
The foundation’s major challenges are support from the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) as well as the community.
In addition to this, there are some items the NGO is looking for to make their foundation a success.
Needs:
• Blankets
• Children’s clothing (all sizes)
• Toys
“We basically need anything children can use so we’re equipped when more children come into our home,” he said.
