Wallet finds its way back to owner through good Samaritan
Geore Brewis left his wallet at the Traffic Department overnight and it was returned, still full of cash.
A good deed these days is like a unicorn centaur wearing a leprechaun costume at the end of a rainbow holding a pot of gold – it’s mythical.
However, every once and a while there is a good Samaritan. George Brewis said the number of times it happens is exactly one in a million.
George recently lost his wallet, only to revisit the place where he thought he might have lost it and have it returned to him.
George went to the Randfontein Traffic Department to apply for his Professional Driving Permit (PDP). When he went in to do his eye test he put his wallet on the table where Godfrey Mabena did the test.
It was only when he got home that he realised he’d left his wallet at the Traffic Department.
“I didn’t sleep that night,” George said. The next morning he went to the Department first thing to try his luck – without much hope of finding anything.
To his surprise, he ran into Godfrey who jokingly asked if he was back for a second eye test. Before George could tell him why he was there, Godfrey said he knew and told him to give him a few minutes.
After a wait of about 10 minutes, Godfrey handed George’s wallet back to him.
“I used to be a biker and Godfrey gave me a biker hug. I was so happy to have my wallet back,” George said.
When he got back to his car, he checked his wallet and every last cent as well as his identity document and driver’s licence was there.
“I can’t believe this is something that happened to me. It’s absolutely awesome that I got my wallet back. This is definitely something from above,” he said.
George would like to thank Godfrey for being a good Samaritan and returning his wallet.
“You are one in a million,” George said.
