New mall’s traffic circle causes confusion
The issue of the new traffic circle causing confusion outside Tambotie Mall to be resolved soon.
On the border of Randgate and Homelake in Malan Street at the entrance of the new mall is a new traffic circle which has been confusing motorists.
The Herald spoke to Ellik de Lange, the area’s ward councillor, who said the problem will be resolved soon.
He said the mall’s private contractor will be rectifying the situation and not the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM). He explained that motorists got confused by how to exit the circle. Instead of them going around the circle, some would drive into oncoming traffic which could lead to a head-on collision.

Ellik said the contractors are busy putting paving in the road on either side of the circle to direct traffic to the appropriate direction. He said once this is complete, traffic signs will be erected which should make the intersection easier to read.
While some have complained about the traffic circle, de Lange explained it was put there to firstly break the speed of motorists travelling on the road while also making the mall easily accessible to motorists.
Ellik explained that as soon as the traffic circle is completed, motorists who will be turning right into Sauer Street and will not have to do a full revolution. He added there will be road painting to direct them to turn directly into the road.
De Lange is confident the circle should be completed within a couple of days at most.
