Truck/ vehicle collides: Animals die as a result
Tragic scene: Collision between truck and vehicle left some animals injured, others dead.
Early on Thursday morning, 22 June, a very large truck transporting sheep and goats allegedly collided with another vehicle, leaving an unknown number of animals injured. Some of them had to be put out of their misery by the SPCA, who were on scene shortly after the accident occurred.
The incident took place on the Ventersdorp Road near Brandvlei.

According to the Herald‘s reliable source, “It is law that these big abnormal trucks are not allowed to travel on the roads early in the morning”.

The exact cause of the accident was not known at the time of going to print, but it is alleged that the truck, which is extremely wide, collided head-on with a vehicle coming from the opposite direction.

Several community members, various Community Policing Forum Sectors as well as Afriforum members were on scene to assist with catching animals running away after the crash. Their efforts led to approximately four bakkie-loads of animals being saved.
