Cyclist critical after being hit by car

Cyclist in his 30s in critical condition after being hit by car earlier this morning.

A man believed to be in his 30s was left critically injured when he was knocked off his bicycle by a vehicle on the R559 in Middelvlei earlier this morning (Friday, 7 July).

Paramedics from ER24 and the provincial emergency services arrived on the scene to find the light motor vehicle in the left-hand lane of the road. The man and his bicycle were found lying a short distance away.

Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson said, “Paramedics quickly assessed the man and found that he had sustained numerous injuries and was in a critical condition.

“The ER24 OnePlan Medical Helicopter was called to the scene to assist in stabilising the patient.

Once the man had been treated and provided with advanced life support interventions, he was airlifted to Baragwanath Hospital for urgent care. Fortunately, no-one from the light motor vehicle sustained any injuries.”

The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
