Boy, 3, killed by electric shock

Child sadly dies after being electrocuted while trying to retrieve a ball that went over a fence.

The community of Toekomsrus is shocked by the death of a 3-year-old boy.

The boy, identified as Tyler Julius, died after being electrocuted on Thursday afternoon. The incident took place at about 5.40pm. An inquest regarding the incident is under investigation.

According to Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, it is alleged the boy was with a group of children playing soccer in Stormrivier Street.

They allegedly kicked the ball over a fence. The boy went to retrieve the ball and he touched an electrical wire at an open electrical box. He was certified dead on the scene,” Ernst said.

She continued, “The Randfontein Police Station Commander and personnel wishes to express our condolences with the bereaved family.”

The matter of the open electricity boxes in the Toekomsrus area has been brought to the attention of local government.

It is advised that people be extra careful around electricity and to consider all electrical wiring as hazardous. Report open electrical boxes to the local municipality.
