Wat skud in die dorp en sy omstreke

Met die Herald se Wat Skud-gids byderhand hoef jy en jou familie nie meer by die huis te sit en wonder wat in die dorp, of selfs aan die hele Wes-Rand en omstreke aangebied word nie.

• 30 September: Spring Adventure Run/Walk and SA Strongmen at Sungate Farms in Elandsvlei, Randfontein
Start the 10km run/walk at 8am and 5km run/walk at 8.15am. The day is full of entertainment which uncludes a flea market with food stores for lunch; dancing; fun and interactive animal show; surprise singer; SA Strongman comes to perform; Tanya V and Franna; Cupcakes 4 kids with Cancer store and jumping castles as well as lots of other items to enjoy. All funds raised from the day’s events will be going to our nominated charities.

• 30 September: Disney Magic At Mall of Africa in Midrand
We all have a Walt Disney favourite from our childhood. No matter how old we get, we can’t help but sing along every time we hear those catchy and oh-so magical songs. And giving you the opportunity to sing along once more, Mall of Africa will be hosting Disney Magic, a musical spectacular that will be brought to life by the talented sounds of the Gauteng Philharmonic Orchestra. Get your tickets now before it’s too late.

• 30 September: Acoustic Music Festival at the SA Guide Dogs Association in Sandton
For the love of music and the talented four-legged bundles of joy that guide the blind, join the SA Guide Dogs Association for their annual music festival. You can expect to catch awesome music provided by local bands Majozi, Georgetown, The Motherland, Jerry and the Bandits, and Zé. There will also be a variety of rustic artisanal food and craft beer available at the event to ensure that you’re replenished and refuelled throughout the day. Tickets are limited, so make sure you get yours ASAP. All proceeds will go towards the Association.

• 30 September: Spring Folk Market at In The Forest Venue in Walkerville
It’s time to celebrate spring! And what better way to do that than at the Spring Folk Market at the In The Forest Venue. Here, you’ll find magical fairies, brave adventurers, enthralling storytellers, talented singers, creators of all things crafty and lovely, as well as cooks, brewers and bakers. This market will make for a lovely day out and about in the countryside. You and your loved ones will enjoy the most wonderful spring adventures! Expect forest trails, fairy trails, a hay bale pond, a shipwreck sandpit, bike trails, archery, tomahawk tossing, tree climbing, forest zip-lining, target-shooting, juggling, hula-hooping, an outdoor theatre and so much more. There are lots of surprises in store.

• 30 September: Gauteng Opera Open Day and Concert at the Tin Town Theatre in Johannesburg
Join Gauteng Opera for an Open Day of fun, music, education and a ‘lekka’ South African get-together. Bring the whole family. Gauteng Opera is an all-round performing arts and entertainment company focusing on opera-related productions, concerts and events. With the slogan “Opera for Everyone”, Gauteng Opera aims to expose opera to varied audiences with different opera offerings. One of these offering will be to invite its patrons, supporters and the general public to join them for a fun afternoon of music, education and celebration. The friendly staff of Gauteng Opera will take the public through our offices and rehearsal spaces where they will be able to see a few classes in action, and might learn something new. We invite scholars of all ages to attend our music workshop. During the afternoon, they will be introduced to what it takes to become a singer. Our trained artists will put them through their paces and late afternoon, they will have the opportunity to showcase what they have learned, to their parents, family and friends in a concert, especially for them. To close off this wonderful day, the artists from Gauteng Opera will present a 60-minute concert at 5pm. This is also a fundraiser event for the company to assist in keeping the art of quality singing alive and sustain a future for our youth. Entrance is free.

• 30 September to 7 October: Boktown at Silverstar in Krugersdorp
The Springboks continue their series clash with their biggest rivals in the 2017 Castle Lager Rugby Championship. The second series started in September, against long-time opponents, Australia. Silverstar will be showing the games live on the biggest outdoor screen on the West Rand, so Springbok supporters who are not able to attend the games at the stadium can still be part of the front-row action. Guests will also enjoy awesome entertainment and great giveaways on the day.
