This year’s Festa Portuegesa better than ever

This year's Festa Portuegesa has been described bigger and better than ever. Here's why ...

This year’s Festa Portuegesa that took place at the Saint Eugene de Mazenod Centre on Sunday, 29 October was bigger and better than ever.

This major annual event started at 11am with a large group of visitors eager to enjoy themselves. The morning started out cold but it turned into a lovely summer’s day.

The spirit in the air was festive – fires were going and the people were enjoying caipirinhas, the drink of choice. Everywhere you looked you saw espetadas on skewers, delicious prego rolls and more.

“We sold 21 barrels of caipirinha at the festival and by 7.30pm, all the food was sold out,” said Sandra Nascimento Avelar, one of the organisers.

A member of the Nueva Latino SA band.

The entertainment provided by traditional dancers, the famous Tanya V and an excellent Latino band, called Nueva Latino SA was top-notch. It was as if everybody forgot their troubles and celebrated life.

Andre Nunes and Sandra wish to thank the Portuguese Forum for the help and support this year. “They helped us with the decor and the amazing set-up, which set the scene for this outstanding event.”

They also added a big shout-out to South African Breweries for helping them with tables, chairs, umbrellas, a bar set and so much more!

“Without the sponsors, families and suppliers, it would have been very difficult to pull off the Festa. We are blessed, and our church truly appreciates it,” they said.
