• 10 October to 30 December: ’80s Rewind’ at Barnyard Theatre Silverstar, Krugersdorp
Get ready for the most daring 80s rock show ever to hit the Barnyard Theatre Silverstar stage. We’re talking retro fashion, groovy dance moves and of course the awesome music from the 80s. Take a trip down memory to songs like The Safety Dance by Men Without Hats, Everybody Have Fun Tonight by Wang Chung, Come on Eileen by Dexys Midnight Runners or Don’t Go by Yazoo? This rewind will refresh your memory and get you dancing the Robocop, the Moonwalk and the Boogie Downlike never before! You can also expect music from Tears for Fears, Soft Cell, Prince, Yazoo, UB40, Simple Minds and many more.
• 14 October to 29 November: ‘Evita the Musical’ at the Teatro at Montecasino in Fourways
The seven-time Tony Award-winning musical Evita follows the rags-to-riches story of the First Lady of Argentina, who won the love of her country’s people after marrying military leader-turned-president, Juan Peron. Set in Buenos Aires between 1934 and 1952, the musical follows Eva Duarte Peron on her passionate and tragic journey from her humble beginnings and becoming an ambitious actress to being the most powerful woman in Latin America and eventually a saint-like figure after her death from cancer at age 33. Featuring some of the best-loved songs in musical theatre, including Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, On This Night of a Thousand Stars, Oh What a Circus, High Flying, Adored and Another Suitcase in Another Hall as well as You Must Love Me, the Oscar-winning hit from the film. Evita is a must-see!

Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and adapted for the stage featuring top professionals, Shrek JR. will capture new audiences in this dazzling adventure story. In a faraway kingdom, the green ogre Shrek finds his swamp invaded by fairy-tale characters who’ve been cast out by Lord Farquaad, a tiny terror with big ambitions. When Shrek sets off with a wise-cracking donkey to confront Farquaad, he’s handed a task – if he rescues feisty Princess Fiona from the dragon-guarded tower, he will get his swamp back.
• 11 November: Sneakerness at the Fox Junction Event Venue in Ferreirasdorp
Do you love sneakers? Then this is the event for you! For the first time in Johannesburg, Sneakerness will be heading to the Fox Junction Event Venue in Ferreirasdorp. If you didn’t know, Sneakersness is a large-scale sneaker convention that takes place a few times a year in cities across Europe, with buyers, sellers, and traders all coming together to view the best and the brightest in the sneaker world. You can expect to see a huge variety of brands, shops and private sellers who’ll be showcasing their products. And to treat your sneaks, Crep Protect will also be offering their products with its free sneaker-cleaning services.
• 11 November: Field Market – November Edition at Field and Study Park in Sandton
Field Market is just the place you need to be if you’re looking to relax and indulge in gourmet foods and drinks. Market-goers can expect to find a little inspiration with plenty of locally handcrafted items on display at over 130 unique stalls, as well as live music and a wonderful atmosphere. And to keep the little ones entertained, there’s a large play area and a lot of activities on offer. Your four-legged companions are also welcome as long as they are on their leash.
• 12 November: Ballet and Brunch On the Hill in Johannesburg
Enjoy a relaxing Sunday afternoon in the gardens of the Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff, brunching and watching some contemporary and classical ballet inspired by Snow White. ‘Ballet On The Hill’, in collaboration with Joburg Ballet and Friends of the Ballet, offers guests a great way to bring the weekend to a close while delighting their senses. The ticket price includes brunch, mixed classical and contemporary performances by Joburg Ballet and a R300 donation to Friends of the Ballet, which is a non-profit organisation that aims to grow ballet locally through their fundraising initiatives.
