This morning, 20 November, Friendship Haven resident Rita Bezuidenhout took the Herald to a mining property where the remains of what look like slaughtered cattle had been dumped – some recently and some a while back.
On the previous Thursday another extremely disgusted resident showed the Herald pictures of this illegal dumping site.

Rita, who takes care of the gardens at Friendship Haven, also discovered the remains while picking up stones to be used in the Haven’s garden. She asked the Herald to go to the area with her.

The smell at the site was unbearable. The Herald saw bones as well as blue plastic bags containing blood and intestines. Some of the remains had been burnt, and others seemed to have been dumped there quite recently.

Magistrate Elbie Botha was informed about this find, and she called it a huge health risk.
The Herald will investigate the matter and notify the Health Department.
