Her team-mate and training partner, Kabelo Melamu, took part in a 5 000m race, finishing fourth in a time of 14 minutes and 23 seconds. He achieved a second place in the 10 000m men’s race with a time of 30 minutes and eight seconds in the SA Track and Field Championships, held in Potchefstroom in April.

“We did very well this season. We are now looking forward to the African Championships next year, should we qualify,” said Motlatsi Sesing, trainer and coach of both Keneilwe and Kabelo.
Cornelia Joubert, running in the colours of Boxer Athletics Club, was saluted for her outing at the World Championships held in March in Cardiff, Wales, where she came 43rd and was the second-placed South African after her compatriot, Noleen Conrad, who ran a personal best time of 74 minutes. In April, Cornelia also placed second in the 10 000m women’s event at the SA Track and Field Championships in Potchefstroom in a time of 35 minutes and 12 seconds.

“I am going to Spain next year for the World 21km Championships where my intention is not to change or alter my training programme but go all out for a win,” she said.
