How to live a healthier life

Start small, like smoking less, consuming less alcohol. etcetera.

Friday,16 February, was Healthy Lifestyle Awareness Day, which focused on re-evaluating your way of life for the sake of your own health.

If you are not living a healthy lifestyle, you do not have to change all your unhealthy habits at once, you can do it step by step. Start small, like smoking less, consuming less alcohol, etcetera.

Here are a few recommendations for living a healthier lifestyle:

• Lower your salt and alcohol intake

• Eat a balanced diet, where you have moderate portions of food

• Exercise regularly. You do not have to join a gym to get fit – swimming, walking, jogging, and dancing are also good for you

• Stop smoking. This is one of the most difficult things to do, but once you have the willpower, it is well worth it

• Drink more water, at least eight glasses a day

• Eat more fruit and vegetables

• Spend time with family and friends

• Spend time outdoors – being in nature is good for your emotional health

• Try to manage your stress. This is very important, as stress can influence you emotionally and physically

•Get a good night’s sleep – at least six to eight hours
