VIDEO: Men of Randfontein speak up for women

Men take a stance against women abuse and acknowledge International Women's Day

In light of International Women’s Day, the Herald ventured out to the streets to ask the men of Randfontein what they thought what their lives would be like if they were no women in their lives.

Their stance reflects that the modern men of Randfontein are committed to loving and supporting the women in society.

Keanu Liebenberg.

Among those that we spoke to, some said much change is needed as women should be treated with the utmost respect because if it were not for them, many lives would not exist.

Keanu Liebenberg said: “Women are a key factor in our lives and life would be completely pointless without them. I believe that women should be treated with the utmost respect, because in the olden days, women were looked down on.”

He went on to say that the abuse directed at women is not right – men should not take advantage of the fact that women do not have the same stature as men, they’re not as physically strong as men. “That does not mean that they can be abused,” he added.

Godfrey Mogorosi.

Godfrey Mogorosi also said life without women would not have meaning, and also condemned violence towards women. “Women have the ability to create good relations in society. And laying a hand on a woman should be condemned. If you, a man, cannot respect a woman, it means that you cannot respect yourself. Without women, none of us would be here. When a man develops a habit of abusing his woman, he should cease that behaviour immediately.

Steve du Preez said: “International Women’s Day is a good campaign as it will show people that women should be treated with respect and are equal to men. All the abuse against women should stop.”

Steve du Preez.

Ngobile Ngubane said he could not imagine life without women. “We need to love and cherish the women in our lives, because we need them,” he concluded.
