Another Mohlakeng woman turns 100
100 seems to be the new 65 after yet another Mohlakeng woman celebrated her 100th birthday.
Another woman from Mohlakeng recently turned 100 years old.
On Monday, 16 April, various luncheon clubs for the elderly, including Lesedi La Mohlakeng, Siya Funda, Refeng Kgotso and the Seventh Day Adventists came together in Macheng Street, Mohlakeng to celebrate the 100th celebration of Josephine Itumeleng Mogalobe.
On top of it all, Ma Mogalobe’s rare achievement of being a centurion comes at the time of the Nelson Mandela’s 100th year celebration.
Nomvuyiso Sidlova, from the mayor’s office, indicated that the mayor wanted to be part of the big occasion but he was, however, probably exhausted having played in a match at the Premier’s Social Cohesion Games the previous day.
“The mayor indicated that he would have liked to be part of the occasion but, he did promise that the gran and others who have reached this 100th year milestone will be invited to a Centenary Celebration during the Mandela Day activities,” Nomvuyiso said.
“Ma Mogalobe’s celebration is nothing else but the result of respect for parents. It is written in the Bible that we must show respect, and that’s why she has achieved this feat,” said Thandi Ngaloshe from the Seventh Day Adventist club.
Marriam Khumalo of the Lesedi La Mohlakeng club added that despite Ma Mogalobe’s age, she is still able to sew and do other domestic chores, was part of the Mohlakeng Senior Citizens Choir and is a devoted member of the Lutheran Church’s Women’s Prayer Group.
“We are also thankful that the Mayor’s Office is part of this occasion,” Marriam said.
