Reinette for the next Mrs Africa
A Randfonteiner and Ram educator stands a chance to become the next Mrs Africa.
Reinette Herbst has beamed with pride ever since she was announced as a Mrs Africa 2018 finalist.
The 32-year-old, who is an educator at Laerskool Randfontein, and a fitness instructor and businesswoman, was crowned as Mrs Randfontein in 2010. She’s also a wife and mother of two children. She said the prospect of becoming Mrs Africa is exciting as the competition is quite a big deal.
The much-anticipated Mrs Africa finals will be held in the North West from 23 November to 2 December.
Although she has never been a beauty pageant kind of person, Reinette said she has learned that Mrs Africa is more than just a beauty pageant. She said she looked at past winners and found an amazing synergy between the Mrs Africa vision and her own.
“Mrs Africa creates the perfect platform for ordinary women to achieve extraordinary things,” she said.
She said in preparation for the finals, she will be doing a lot of work to make sure she stands a good chance of outshining the rest of the continent.
Asked about the prospect of winning, Reinette said, “It is quite exciting and I am looking forward to it. It is a big Foundation that I would like to work with, so that I can do a lot more and make a difference in various communities. In preparation, I am going to classes, but also still doing my normal community work, which includes working with Just In Time Baby Sanctuary and Rainbow Day Care Centre.
“It is a lot of work to get there but we’ll do it. I think I have what it takes to reflect the pageant’s cause and become both the face and the voice that supports the directors of Mrs Africa and the Mrs Africa Foundation.”
The finals will take the form of a ten-day programme, which will be judged in various themes.
“On one day, we will have a bikini parade, while on another, we will be judged on our formal attire. We need to start working now and doing our community work, including fundraising events,” Reinette said.
