Greenhills residents welcome mobile Home Affairs service
A strong turnout saw first-time applicants secure IDs, while extra support was brought in to meet demand and assist residents unable to visit in person.
Greenhills residents praised the Home Affairs on Wheels programme following a busy outreach at Greenhills Stadium on Monday, September 28. The initiative was organised by councillor Martin Brown.
First-time ID applicants Werner du Buisson and Keamogetswe Letebele were among those celebrating the milestone, with Letebele saying she was excited to finally have an ID after seeing many of her friends receive theirs.

She said the biggest motivation was that having an ID would soon allow her to apply for her driver’s licence.

Older residents Izak van Aswegen and Ann Bezuidenhout also praised the service, particularly its efficiency and the ease with which they were able to complete their business. Mobile manager Thandeka Sithole said the unit experienced a hectic day as residents arrived “thick and fast”, but staff managed to keep the system flowing.

Demand prompts extension of services
The strong turnout even resulted in a backup mobile unit being requested, while residents already in the queue were set to be assisted beyond the scheduled closing time.

Sithole also encouraged residents who cannot queue because of health or illness reasons to register with their ward councillors. Their details can be submitted to Home Affairs so that the mobile unit can make arrangements to assist eligible residents at home.
