A 30-year old lawyer has landed himself in hot water following an alleged bribing incident earlier this week.

The next day he appeared in the same court.

Ernst added the bribe was allegedly offered to his client’s investigating officer, as he wanted his client to be released on bail.

She explained, “Members of the West Rand Trio Task Team quickly reacted when one of their own was offered a bribe. The lawyer’s client was at court for a bail application. The police member immediately reported the matter to the court as well as to his superiors. The police officer arrested the lawyer at the court the minute he handed over the money,” Ernst added.

Brigadier Jacob Manamela, the Randfontein Police station commander, lauded the police officer for his swift reaction to bring the lawyer to justice.

“The police in general and the West Rand Cluster Police in particular are proud to call the warrant officer part of their team. The member acted with integrity and honour in exposing the lawyer,” he said.
