It’s Throwback Thursday and the Herald went back in time, to March 1985, to see what was in the news.
March 1985 was a month jam-packed with local entertainment, but there was still hard news, including a story about people dropping their dogs off at the SPCA when they had to renew their animal licences, and a tree that crushed a car during a wind storm on Tier Street.
Here’s what people found entertaining that month:
• A new acappella choir started in Randfontein
• Jannas had a lot of laughs during the Grade 8 concert
• A flash mob break-dancer in Main Street
• Checkers started selling a new encyclopaedia series
• South Africa’s first world championship powerboat event was held on the Vaal River
• The Easter bunny came to visit the local Pick ‘n Pay
• The EL-DO-RA-MI youth choir announced that they were expanding
