Bekkersdal Police celebrate Madiba
The aim of the project was to boost the morale of the police after the station had been attacked by angry service delivery protesters on Friday, 13 July.
Members of the Bekkersdal Police and the Public Servants’ Association jointly celebrated 67 minutes for Mandela by cleaning and re-painting the palisade wall around the police station with the assistance of workers from the local Community Work Programme.
The station commander, Colonel Tinus Swart, also took part and later proceeded to four primary schools with the Social Crime Prevention team to donate about 100 toiletry items to needy learners. “We will maintain the good relationships we have with our communities, continue fighting crime and make Bekkersdal a safer and better place to live,” he said.
