Pilane, 30, who lives in Greenhills, is a TV and radio personality.
If you were ever enticed by eTV’s Cool Catz, you would immediately recognise Pilane Morake’s voice in one of the characters, Wildcat.
Pilane, 30, who lives in Greenhills, is a TV and radio personality. He said he would like to help prepare those who are interested in a career in the broadcast media to get into the industry more easily.
Born in Mafikeng, Pilane said he has seen many parts of South Africa and has visited cities such as Cape Town and Pretoria. He added how grateful he was for the opportunity to visit all these places and meet different people from a variety of backgrounds, as they have shaped him into the person he needed to be.
The opportunity to become a TV personality has opened many doors for him. “After leaving TV, I got the opportunity to help with an online radio station, and that is where I do the Greenlight every Monday to Friday from noon until 3pm,” he said.
He said he has pushed himself harder, looking for other avenues to help him grow as a person, so between 2009 and 2011, he studied Media Practices at Boston College.
When asked what his life as an entertainer entails, Pilane said, “It entails a whole lot of discipline, passion and patience, because you spend most of your time going to auditions, hoping to get the next project,” he said.
He admitted that the industry is not stable, but said if one was born for it, one should follow one’s dreams.
“Hold onto it, but remember that you need a lot of commitment,” Pilane said. He added that most of the challenges he had encountered were financial-related and trying to break into the industry.
Asked about his future aspirations, Pilane said even though he would still like to do radio, he would like to focus on serious matters, such as becoming involved in current affairs programmes. “Maybe, at some point, I would also do a bit of acting,” he added.
