Crime prevention efforts by the Bekkersdal Police resulted in the arrest of a 27-year-old man in possession of pills suspected to be drugs.
Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, confirmed that at about 11.30am on 28 September, members were conducting a roadblock near Rand Water on the N12 when Sergeant Modise Ramagaga spotted a sedan with four occupants.

“He stopped the vehicle and asked the occupants to get out of the vehicle. He then started searching the occupants with the assistance of Captain Nokuthola Sebonyane and discovered a plastic bag inside the pocket of the passengers,” Lefakane said.

She added, “He opened the bag and found about 100 pills which he suspected might be a drug known as Ndanda, with a street value of about R6 000. He arrested the suspect, who is expected to appear before the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon.”
Lieutenant Colonel Florence Zondi, acting Bekkersdal Police station commander applauded the police members for a job well done and for being vigilant.
“This kind of operation will be conducted on a daily basis and anyone who is found on the wrong side of the law will be brought to book,” Zondi said.
