Man hijacked by fake cops on R559

Randfontein Police warn motorists to be extra vigilant after a man was hijacked by fake cops in uniform on the R559 earlier this week.

A man was hijacked after being pulled over by bogus police officers on the R559 in Mohlakeng earlier this week.

Constable Carmen Hendricks, Randfontein Police spokesperson confirmed that the victim was driving a white Hyundai 4 tonner when he was stopped by a marked black Nissan Hardbody on Monday, 1 October.

“After the victim was stopped, two men who were dressed in police uniform approached him. One of them pointed a firearm at the victim and instructed him to move to the passenger seat.

They covered his face, bound his hands and drove to Slovoville where they dropped him off.”

Hendricks added that the vehicle was later found abandoned near Dobsonville without its cargo and that the case is under investigation by the Vehicle Crime Identification Unit in Protea Glen.

Colonel Rand Makgatho of the Randfontein Police warned drivers to be more vigilant.

“It is unfortunate that criminals are now posing as police officers to commit crime. Drivers should drive to the nearest police station if they feel unsafe,” Makgatho said.
