A cup of tea to raise church funds
The Phenomenal High Tea was the Methodist Church's first event that was also open to the public.
The Methodist Church Randfontein hosted a fun high tea event in their garden on Saturday, 6 October.
The Phenomenal High Tea was well attended by church members and other community members. According to Reverend Simon Prins, this was the church’s first event that was also open to the public.
“The purpose of the Phenomenal High Tea was to raise funds for the church. Everyone is struggling so the women of the church decided to take hands and organise this event,” he said.
Simon said they sold 80 tickets and that he was impressed with how well the gardens were decorated for the event. He complimented the group of organisers for hosting such a glamorous event.
“Everyone wore traditional outfits but our main theme was ‘die doek’, which is a headdress. Different cultures wear it differently, but in some cultures it has so much meaning, therefore today we want to honour the tradition in particular,” he said.
Phindi Chuenyane, a church steward and one of the organisers of the event said that the focus was on the youth.
“We want to show young people that you can have a party, dance and have a lot of fun without using any alcohol,” she said.
A lucky draw was also done during the afternoon and winners walked away with great prizes such as a sheep, a slow cooker, a kettle and an iron.
