Family tied up, held at gunpoint on smallholding

Family on smallholding tied up, held at gunpoint and robbed by five suspects on Monday.

A family from Waterpan in Westonaria was held at gunpoint, tied up and robbed during a smallholding invasion on the night of Monday, 8 October.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, confirmed that the incident took place at about 7pm and that they have launched a manhunt for five suspects after they entered a house on a smallholding and robbed the occupants of three firearms, electrical appliances, money and jewellery. A case of house robbery is being investigated.

“It is alleged the victim was home with his parents when they were accosted by five suspects already pointing firearms at them. They tied the victims’ hands and feet before demanding money.

“The victims told them they had no money and one of the suspects made a call. After he ended the call, he instructed one of the victims to take him to the bedroom where the safe was.”
