Children’s Day celebrations in Toekies
The Myburgh Foundation held a kids' party for National Children's Day on 3 November.
There are many social ills affecting the lives of the youth of Toekomsrus, that’s why a local organisation held a special party for the children of the area.
The Myburgh Foundation held a kids’ party for National Children’s Day on the 3rd of November.
“We have found that a lot of children are being neglected. There are a lot of children on the streets of Toekies and during this party, we wanted to entertain them while teaching them to be street smart,” said Randy Christian, founder of the Foundation.
Instead of playing in the streets and getting into trouble, children from the community were welcome to enjoy themselves at their own party. They had jumping castles, music, sweets, toys, face painting, fun activities and donated clothes to make the day even more special.
“We taught them about their rights, because most children don’t even know that they have rights. We also taught them about personal space. These basics are supposed to be common knowledge, but for a lot of them, it was the first time they’d heard it. It can make a big difference in their lives,” Randy said.
The children enjoyed every moment of their special day, but it would not have been possible if the whole community of Toekies had not made donations or offered some form of help to the Foundation.
“At the end of the day, we are just trying our best to better the community and help in any way we can. Our long-term goal is to create a place of care and safety for abused and neglected children.”
