Get to know a ‘Teiner’ #88 – Nompilo Makhathini
The 88th person in the Herald’s Get to know a Randfonteiner project introduces herself.
Meet our ‘Teiner of the Week, 28-year-old Nompilo Makhathini, of Helikonpark, and the new intern at the Herald.
Nompilo, who originally comes from Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal, considers herself as a woman of ambition. She said that among the many things she wants to achieve in her community is to cater for the needy, especially orphanages, more.
“The idea is to give them all the help they need and also to empower them,” Nompilo said.
While she was growing up, Nompilo said she saw many children being raised without their own parents, including herself. That’s why she wants to help orphans realise their dreams.
“I want to give them homes, and I want to make them believe that they can be absolutely anything, for as long as they put their minds to it.”
She said education is the most important thing to consider when one has to compete in this world.
“With education, one can shape one’s life and become a better citizen.”
Through this, Nompilo said she would like to see children growing into better adults of the future.
“Ultimately, we will have a better society, in which children can achieve their dreams and prosper in life,” Nompilo added.
