16 Days of Activism campaign high priority for police
Local police along with a number of stakeholders held a pre-awareness initiative for the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign in the Bekkersdal area.
The 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign is a high priority for the Bekkersdal Police.
This after the police, in partnership with the Department of Government Communication and Information System (GCIS), members of the Community Development Workers (CDW) and the Community Policing Forum (CPF) held a pre-awareness initiative for the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign at the Bekkersdal Taxi Rank on Wednesday, 14 November.
“The purpose was to raise awareness about cases of violence against women and children, drugs and substance abuse, and general safety tips for the festive season,” said Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson.
She added a one-on-one programme with members of the community was also conducted about crime awareness.
“The community was also encouraged to report crime and talk to their children regarding their safety during the school holidays. We have managed to distribute a total of 500 pamphlets in the community,” Lefakane said.
