Thirty different breeds of dogs, with their owners, took part in the Datsun Dog Day, hosted by Rand West Datsun and Nissan on Saturday 24 November, to raise funds for the Rand West SPCA.
This fundraiser saw the dogs competing in three categories: Most handsome Datsun Dog; “Waggiest” tail Datsun Dog, and the most spoiled Datsun Dog.
Gerda Pieterse, Dealer Principal at Rand West Datsun and Nissan, said she personally loves animals and could not let them suffer.
Gerda said after becoming aware of the financial state of the SPCA, the Randwest Datsun dealership made a commitment to help the organisation.
“There were people and companies that came on board to donate dog food and the prizes for the fundraiser. It was really nice to see that people really care,” Gerda said.
She said without the community’s support, the SPCA would not be functional.
Gerda said the funds were raised through the entries, and through people and companies that made donations.
“We also challenged companies to contribute, and that is why we had sponsors like EPR, Little Farm Yard Pre-Primary, Absa, and Protein Feeds on board,” Gerda said.
She said the profit from all the hot dogs that were sold on the day will also go to the SPCA.
“There were a lot sponsors that came and said they would add prizes for the fundraiser. We would like to thank everyone who was part of the fundraiser for showing their support for the SPCA.”
