Residents and day workers at Connie Mulder Centre were honoured on Friday 23 November.
Residents and day workers at Connie Mulder Centre were honoured on Friday 23 November, with early Christmas presents, and were treated as royalty for simply being on their best behaviour and cooperating throughout 2018.
CEO of the centre, Gordon Henney, said the ceremony was a symbol of appreciation for the residents, 16 of whom were handed certificates for their good behaviour and outstanding cooperation.
“Our staff members are going to be serving them delicious dishes and champagne, which they are only allowed to have once a year.
“Tonight we just want to say thank you to our residents and our day workers for all the work that they have done during the year. We are also saying thank you for the cooperation, and for the other good things that they have done this year.
Gordon also gave thanks to Hoërskool Riebeeckrand for spearheading the initiative.”After hearing that they did not get anything in the previous year, we saw the need to get involved and try to make them feel special and happy,” Franco Venter said.
He said 210 gifts were given to the residents and staff members.
Willie Breytenbach, who sponsored all the men’s gifts, said: “These people here are just like our children, and by doing this for them we feel fulfilled with the role we play.”
