Since the beginning of this year, Aaron Mabe has been worried about the safety of the young children who pass his yard, running the risk of falling into a manhole that has been exposed for 11 weeks.
Mabe, who said he lives in area that is especially busy in the mornings and afternoons, fears that something serious will happen to someone, because of the open manhole.
“Small children like playing here, and I am always scared that one day one of them will get seriously injured,” Mabe said.
Mabe, who said he now feels at his wits end with the situation, has reported the matter to the municipality with no success.
“All I can do, because I feel responsible in some way, since it is in front of my house, is park my car over the manhole to block it.”
He said he cannot explain how the cover fell inside the hole, but during the Herald’s visit to the site, the cover was seen lying at the bottom.
“I think something should be done, and be done quickly, so that we prevent anything worse from happening. I am mostly worried about those who frequent this road, it such a big risk to them. Better be safe than sorry,” Mabe added.
